Fiorella Camilleri - Profile

Born in Malta in 1983, Fiorella Camilleri started flute lessons under the guidance of Archibald Mizzi, principal bassoonist of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2007, she placed first in the Young Musician Award which enabled her to participate in a two-week course at the London College of Music.

Following a distinction grade in the Associate Diploma from Trinity College, London, she graduated with a Masters degree in Flute at the Conservatory of Music ‘Orazio Vecchi Tonelli’ in Modena in 2012. During this period she studied with Italy’s top flute-players and pedagogues including Michele Marasco, Andrea Oliva, Gabriele Betti and Salvatore Vella.

Fiorella occupies a full-time position as sub-principal flute and piccolo player with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, where she has played under the baton of Wayne Marshall, Peter Stark, Charles Olivieri-Monroe, David Campbell, Jonathan Butcher, and Brian Schembri. She features regularly as a soloist, and as a member of chamber-music ensembles alongside members of the orchestra and other soloists. In parallel to her classical music activities, Fiorella is an active player in the Maltese jazz, and Latin scene.

She has recently started to commission new works for flute, and flute and guitar duo from several international composers. This has already yielded tangos, and a Concerto for flute, guitar, and orchestra.
